Is it Spring yet?

What a strange week on the lakes. I don’t think the fish know whats what with this weather, another week dominated by cold northerlies, torrential rain, hail storms and water temperatures dropping in May? Mesters has been quiet to be honest, the fish acting more like its March than May.

Pick of the week is Kel Bowers capture of a fantastic 25lb plus common. It was the smallest of a number of fish stocked from Somerset’s Ashmead Fishery and was captured in May 2019 at 16lb, so exactly almost two years later to the day its piled on almost 10lb in weight and is another of our youngsters coming up through the ranks. Little Mesters has done some great fish, Andy Melbourne getting amongst the mirrors with fish to almost 18lb.

Its Alderfen stealing the show again, the lads on Wyndham having to work hard for the fish but getting amongst them. Hot off the press is a new lake record falling to Nathan Snowden with the capture of ‘Buster” at 29lb exactly, add to that a mirror of 24lb, a scale perfect 21lb common and several good doubles he’s having a great session despite the cold conditions. Kirk Collins winkled out another stunning mirror to continue his run of superb fish. Pads as usual throwing numerous fish up with multiple catches to Pete Bilton and Mick Moore. Gate pool has been quiet but throwing up plenty of carp and bream to those who’ve braved the elements
